Solar Panels

Birkdale Fair and owners Fort Street Real Estate are at the forefront of environmentally friendly retail solutions. In fact, we have just installed a 250kW rooftop solar power system. This equates to 336 tonnes of CO2 removed from the atmosphere, or the equivalent of 122 cars being taken off the road each year. That's enough to power almost 70 homes.

Fort Street Real Estate are so committed to sustainable practices that they are planning to roll out similar projects in conjunction with Energy Aware across other retail centres right around the country.

Energy Aware's project manager Mack Thomas is proud of his company's contribution to this fast growing and important industry. Mack provides a tailored approach to his clients, over 6,000 and growing, that helps guide each and every one to a more sustainable future.

“Our company was founded in 2009,” Mack says, “and is comprised of an innovative group of professionals who are very excited by the economic and environmental opportunities associated with the transition to clean technology.”

Mack has also assured us that the solar panels are extremely durable and have been installed by CEC accredited electricians.

Community Partnerships

Little Blue Dinosaur

Since 2018 Birkdale Fair has built a partnership with The Little Blue Dinosaur Campaign to spread the message on the importance of holding children’s hands around roads.

The Little Blue Dinosaur was created in the memory of Tom who was a vibrant and loving young boy with a zest for life and an unforgettable smile, and he continues to be a powerful motivator of the foundation every day, with the drawing of blue dinosaurs that he loved to do so much becoming the logo for his foundation. The tragic loss of Tom in a pedestrian road accident on the Central Coast in 2014 motivated us to establish the Little Blue Dinosaur Foundation (LBD), ensuring the promising legacy we saw in Tom’s young life is realised through child road safety initiatives and education.

The Little Blue Dinosaur Foundation is a voice for children. It is Tom’s voice. A clear, determined and passionate voice that speaks to children, for children and their safety. Tom’s message “Slow down; kids around” is an essential one that must be heard in every street, city and town. The work of the Foundation is Tom's legacy and a single life saved through education and awareness raised in his name is an objective we are all very proud to strive for.
